forethought before visit

kingsize studios seems to look like a really cool place to work looking at there site was very informative i can see myself one day using this space till i get my own studio  and the fact that you can rent out gear really appeals to me as for some shots might need this lens or another but you never need it again so renting would save a lot of money if you were doing one off shots

after visit thoughts

after our visit to kingside my thoughts on the studio are really good the people there were very nice and  very helpful and informative definitely a great place to get gear and help

for this photo response i going to try my hand at emulating a photo by vanessa wu  it's going to be interesting to try my hand at food photography

A professional photographer since the early 90's, her main passion is still life and food. Driven by aesthetics, she has become well known for her beautiful, minimalist, yet distinctly feminine style, which references her life long interest in art and graphic design. Using lighting to enhance contour and form is her photographic signature.

Her aim is to create beauty in her work that brings joy, this, Vanessa says, makes the process worthwhile. Vanessa has been involved in numerous photographic and art exhibitions showing her personal work, as well as having a high profile in magazines and books.

She has also been on the board of the AIPA (NZ Photographers Association), which involved organising and finding sponsorship for touring NZ Photographic exhibitions, awards and books. As well as shooting editorially, Vanessa has photographed many advertising campaigns winning awards locally and internationally, including Clio and Axis awards. In addition she has won gold, silver and bronze AIPA.

Her client list includes Air NZ, NZTE, Visa, Coke, Meccano, Sony, Panasonic, Adidas, Seagars Gin, Robert Harris Coffee, McCoy fruit juice, Evian, Red Bull, Huntaway Wines, Oyster Bay wines, Vogels, Arnotts, Beehive Bacon, Mainland Butter, Meadowfresh, Puhoi Cheese, Kapiti, Nescafe, Cadbury, Bluebird, Vodafone, Telstra, Healtheries, Glaxo Wellcome, Aetna Health, Sun Alliance, National Bank, ANZ Bonus Bonds, Wella, Schwarzkopf and Shiseido.

theses are the two photos i want to try and recreate

here are a few of my examples from this recreation of the photos above

my first problem was the background in the photos above the background is a grey white and i couldn't find my white back ground so i went with my black witch actually worked to show the plate of better .the next problem lighting i only had 1 lamp and the 2 kitchen lights so i used a reflector to bounce the light off the lamp to the food .

for the onions i put some oil on to them to give them some shine

these two photos from  Perceiving Identity  show i really like his idea of recreating his past how he has done this photos makes you feel like you could be standing right there

this looks like such a old style of school photo

this one is from a campaign for glassons i must say this is one of my favourites of his that i have seen i  think this is because of the way the subject is interacting with the boxes but not so much as to make them the  subject of the photo

after visit thoughts

after the visit from russ flatt i understand this work a lot better and how he did this series i think the idea of recreating most rembrail scenes from your childhood is a great idea i just wouldn't like all the work that goes into it

my photo response idea for russ flatt is to recreate an old photo of me practising my violin under a tree im going to add the original photo when i can find it.

this is the photo that i'm trying to recreate

in the original photo that i'm trying recreate  i'm sitting under a tree in my grandpops yard i didn't knows this till yesterday but my mum says it was taken not long after my nana died .in the photo im wearing a tee and some sweat pant things  and im barefoot my thinking with this photo was to add some innocents  in to the photo so i added some angel wings white gloves and little halo headband thing  i also had a wig on to hide my messed up hair.

i think i nearly got this photo right i wish i had the photo with me when i was doing this shoot

for the next part of this response i thought i do me as i am now  the gothic rock sassy women that 1 am i think i got this pretty right

simon devitt

SIMON DEVITT PHOTOGRAPHER LTD

in this photo i see the details of the room i get a sense of the space and feel of the room
this is a very formal photo straight on using the natural light from the windows witch gives the room some nice shadows in the foreground this photo fits into the editorial genre with sub genre of Architecture the ideas behind this picture are to show off the room's size and the light u can get from the windows

the best photo assistant  profile i can find would be stacey simpkin because of how many areas she Specializes in

you would use the model release form so in the future the model cant come back and say you cannot use the pictures of her

2 rooms gallery

2 rooms gallery

http://tworooms.co.nz/
my photo

this picture by Mark Adams really spoke to me at the gallery the texture in this photo was amazing to me

all the photos in this collection  are c-type prints silver based colour enlargements from 10 by 8 inch kodak portra 400 negatives mounted on dibond  the images look so good mounted like this almost like they are so light there floating but also such a nice shine to them like they a coated with glass.the size that this picture was printed really let you see all the detail and the texture in the picture
the idea about this series is to recreate a painting by william hodges of one of the spots where captain cook  landed on one of his  voyages  of new zealand
22.6.2014. Astronomers Point, Stump of Tree Chopped Down 1773, Pickersgill Harbour, Tamatea-Dusky Sound.
photo from 2 rooms website

Conor Clarke

i was hocked  by these two photos when i saw them in the gallery  i couldn't pick which one was my  favourite so  I'm doing both

landscape ii berlin  2014 c-type print 217 by 320 mm unframed

landscape i berlin 2014 c-type print 179 by 254 mm unframed

both of these pictures are mounted on mat board  behind non reflective glass the way that these photos have been presented gives them a slightly classic  feel which works nicely with how the photos are in black and white
thses pictures are a kind of optical illusion  the mounts look quite big  but in fact they are not that big you can tell this by the tyre tracks in the dirt this is really quite a clever trick
i dont know what the story behind this photo is but it got to be a funny story

my trip out to penrose - practise train photos

on Tuesday the 6 of the 5 2015 i went on what i thought was going to be a quick trip out to penrose to pick up a parcel well this trip ended up taking 5 hours. getting to penrose was easy i walked from my house to train station i took some pictures of homi station that was OK except for my lens hood which keep ed gating in all of my photos so i took that of and that was all good hopped on the train to penrose when i got to penrose i didn't have time to stop as i really needed a drink so off we went (my sister was with me ) now i go to penrose a bit to pick up parcels i thought i knew where to go but when i got to where i thought i needed to be  it was the wrong courier so i got google maps on and well after getting lost 3 times using google (going down wrong roads making wrong turns and for some reason cutting through mt smart stadium ) and about 2 hours of walking i asked a local where it was and to make me madder than i already was it was only half an hours walk from the train station in the other direction lol so we found our way there from those directions finally got to courrier place got my parcel and because i'm impatient  i decided to open the parcel big mistake gristly it wasn't what i had ordered i had ordered a reflector set when i opened it up it was a light tent now the next problem i couldnt fold the light tent after both me and my sister trying to fold this thing back into its bag we gave up and just carried it which was fun in itself as it was a bit windy .we got back to the train station by this time i was so tired i only did a couple quick photos then hopped on the train home .

here are some of the photos i took

homi station before
homi station after

with this photo  i kind of went mad with the temperature slider and vibrancy slider trying to get every thing right in this picture till i went crazy and gave up i went back to this picture when i was sane  and used the adjustment brush instead of the sliders it worked out much better

penrose station

after
i wanted to brighten and add some vibrancy to this photo but i went to far with the greens and the yellows but the leading lines are really nice with how they disappear into the distance

before

after

i brightened this picture and upped  the colour and i really like how it turned out

before
after

term 2 porfolio week 1

pitch for portfolio trajectory

what is your genre  ?

editorial - architectural-documentary

for my portfolio i'm going to do train stations from old vintage trains and stations to the most modern and fancy ones i can find i want to show the character the face of theses stations how the older lesser used stations are run down a bit and not really cared about and that the newer flashy stations are so well cared for but also i want to show the changing face of the railway

what techniques and style will you incorporate for these photographs  ?

my techniques and style are not set at this point but i'm planing to use a lot of straight lines  and hi vantage points in my photos some of my photos i'm going to make black and white and have others in colour

how will you approach research for this project ?

for my research i'm mostly using the library for my style and technique and online for my research on artists who do simmler photos to what i'm thinking of doing in my photos i'm also using pinterest for image research

what is your plan for the first three weeks ?

week one : book research  online research  go out and take some practice photos

week two : more research both book and online  define my theme  more practice photos

week three : some research but more taking photos and starting to go through and start looking for final pics then starting editing if need be
