PLAYING WITH CAMERA RAW
playing around with camera raw
i decided to have a play with camera raw in between my other posts i used lens correction first but that didn't seem to do much so i next went down to the lens vignetting bars then the transform bars then went over to split toning bar played with highlights and shadows then over to the hsl/grayscale panel then finally over to the basics panel and in the end this is what i got i think it looks very cool
before
after
for this photo i wanted to make the secne more dreamy looking i just used the basics pannel for this picture for this pic i used the basics pannel i used the tempture slider
week 3 research
paul Strand (October 16, 1890 – March 31, 1976) was an American photographer and filmmaker who, along with fellow modernist photographers like Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Weston, helped establish photography as an art form in the 20th century. His diverse body of work, spanning six decades, covers numerous genres and subjects throughout the Americas, Europe, and Africa
i really love how paul strands photos seem so simple at first glance then you really look at then and theres so much going on when i first looked at these photos i just scrolled past them then i went back though .theses caught my eye and i really started to look at them now there some of my favourite pictures

i really love how paul strands photos seem so simple at first glance then you really look at then and theres so much going on when i first looked at these photos i just scrolled past them then i went back though .theses caught my eye and i really started to look at them now there some of my favourite pictures
the framing and and lines of this picture really make your eye go to the tree i can't tell if this is a window or a doorway but the use of its straight lines really makes this picture stand out
with this photo the cropping is done so the girl is the main subject and she stands out but leaves enough space so the picture is not to full with her this makes it easier to see the details of the photo all at once
Olive Cotton (11 July 1911 – 27 September 2003) was a pioneering Australian modernist female photographer of the 1930s and 40s working in Sydney. Cotton became a national "name" with a retrospective and touring exhibition 50 years later in 1985. A book of her life and work, published by the National Library of Australia, came out in 1995. Olive Cotton captured her childhood friend Max Dupain from the sidelines at photoshoots, e.g. "Fashion shot, Cronulla Sandhills, circa 1937" and made several portraits of him.[1] Dupain was Cotton's first husband.
the tight crop on both of these patterns really pulls your attention to the subject of these pictures with the first picture the lines of the trees really dominate this picture pulling your eye sky ward . in the second picture the pattern of the tea cups is broken with the single cup being in the foreground when you would expect it to be in the background with how the pattern goes

for this reasher i used a couple web sites i forgot to add links
week 1 shutter research
Josef koudelka
Josef koudelka was born on 10 January 1987 in Boskovice, Moravia. he is know for his street photography . im mostly using a book for my research the book is called chaos by josef koudelka I'm using goggle to get get the pictures but refrencing to the book to make sure that theses are his photos
but i also used a site called magnum photos https://www.magnumphotos.com/C.aspx?VP3=CMS3&VF=MAGO31_10_VForm&ERID=24KL535C7T
Rhymney Valley. Tirphil
i couldn't find any info for this picture but to take a guess i would say it was taken at a slow to midden shutter speed most likely on a tripod .in this photo the are a lot of leading lines and patterns also there are a lot triangles in this picture . the lines really lead your eye from the front to the back of the picture .
FRANCE. Paris. Bois de Vincennes. 1987.
I'm guessing that this picture was taken with a slow to middle shutter speed and with a wide angel lens the patterns and leading lines in this picture really draw your eye to the centre of the cross roads .
CZECHOSLOVAKIA. Prague. Warsaw Pact tanks invade Prague. 21st of August 1968.
this picture was taken with a fast shutter speed the movement of the flags and the peoples hands and faces is frozen perfectly in that moment
CZECHOSLOVAKIA. Prague. August 1968. Warsaw Pact troops invasion.
this photo was taken with a fast shutter speed as well THIS PHOTO IS SLIGHTLY OUT fouces in the left hand corner this might be from movement of the camera i found this photo very hard to study and figure out
Anna and Bernhard Blume
Anna and Bernhard Blume refers to the German art photographers Anna Blume (1937) and Bernhard Johannes Blume (8 September 1937 – 1 September 2011). They created sequences of large black-and-white photos of staged scenes in which they appeared themselves, with objects taking on a "life" of their own. The works of Anna and Bernhard Blume have been shown internationally in exhibitions and museums, including MoMA in New York.
both of theses photo show just how good a photo can come out whenyou play with shutter speed i think the first photo/s when taken with a mix of fast and slow shutter speeds .in the second photo i think a fast shutter speed was used . i wasnt able to find a book to research to to so i got my info off wicapedia and

week 2 aperture
landscape
this is my land scape picture for exercise 1 this picture was taken with a wide DOF f/11.0 1/40 iso 100 this picture is a bit blurry from a focusing issue .
three elements
this photo was for exercise 2 this photo was taken at f/1.8 1/1000 iso 100 this photo didn't come out as i wished because of a focusing issue (mainy because i had tripod on back wards ) Tatiana and Karen where meant to be the foreground the bush the mid ground and the trees the back ground
next time I think I need to have the tripod more level
this photo was taken at f/8.0 1/100 iso 100 this photo was for exercise 3
this photo was taken at f/1.8 1/2000 iso 100
you can really see the difference between these two with the top picture all the details are in focuses where in the bottom picture the back ground is out of focuses and a bit blurry and the foreground of the picture (Karen) is in focuses
week 1 self directed task continued
light drawing
i was meant to use a tripod for this exercise but at the time again i didn't have a working one so theses photos are free hand .
theses photos where all taken at my house with the help of my friend
this frist photo was taken at f/3.81 1/640 iso 6400 with this photo i wanted to see what i would get with a higher shutter speed as you can see I got a complety black background with the glow stick in a stanery pose
this photo was taken at f/5.0 1.0 iso 6400 the iso was to high on this photo but effect i got with this photo made it so unique
f/5.0 1.0 iso 6400
f/3.5 1.0 iso 800 i drooped the iso on this one hoping to darken the back ground butt it still wasn't dark enough
f/3.5 1.0 iso 800 im not sure why the back ground was darker in this one
f /3.5 1.0 iso 200 the light from the glow stick is coming though more intensity
f/3.5 1.0 iso 200 i really like this picture butt am still getting a lot of light from the house next door
f/3.5 1.0 iso 100 on this photo i finally got the background to the darkness i wanted
f/3.5 1.0 iso 100
f/3.5 1.0 iso 100
f/3.5 1.0 iso 100
f/3.5 1.0 iso 100 i like the movement in this photo looking at it now i see that i really needed it centred
f/4.0 2.0 iso 100 with this photo i increased the speed and f stop i think this is why i got some light from the house next door
f/4.0 2.0 iso 100 this is my favourite photo from this collection it all most perfect with the intensity of the green and the near perfect black of the back ground
i was meant to use a tripod for this exercise but at the time again i didn't have a working one so theses photos are free hand .

(practitioners research)(week 2)
laurence aberhart
"Laurence Geoffrey Aberhart (born 1949) is a new zealand photographer Aberhart was born in Nelson in 1949, along with three siblings, and was educated at Nelson College from 1963 to 1966.[1] He moved to Lyttelton in the late 1960s, before finally moving to Russell where he still lives and works today. Aberhart travels often and has produced many collections of photographs taken around the world. Although he photographs numerous subjects, Aberhart is best known for his photography of buildings from around the world. His subject matter includes Masonic lodges, war memorials, houses and the occasional landscape. However, when he was typecast as a building photographer, Aberhart took a series of human portraits to debunk the stereotype.[2][3]
Aberhart trained to become a primary teacher and it was around that time when he first became interested in photography by reading the photographic books on display and seeing a friend working in the darkroom. Aberhart taught himself photography. After finishing his teaching course, he was posted in Northland. This was his only posting as a teacher and soon after he took up photography seriously.[4] Aberhart has three children, who were the subject of a series of photographs in the 1980s, but is unmarried.[3]"h(off Wikipedia )
i really like aberharts style of photos i like how he can take something all ready impressive in its own right and make it even more impressive i also like that he shots in black and white his use of aperture and leading lines in this photo .of how the tiles on the floor lead your eye to every point at the same time and the curved line of the stair case dominates the picture also his use of narrow DOF in this picture really draws the eye to the staircase and the lights above .i think a medim to slow shutter speed would have been used for this photo so im gussing a tipod may have beeen used for this photo .
Loisiana, 1988.
this photo is a bit burry because iv made it bigger than the original image that i found on google .i think a wide DOF was used in this photo with this photo the fore mid and background really tie in together this makes it feel like your standing right there seeing this with your own eyes .
here are two links if you would like to know more I also used a book called aberhaart when I was researching

richard mischard
Richard Misrach (born in Los Angeles, California in 1949) is an American photographer "firmly identified with the introduction of color to 'fine' [art] photography in the 1970s, and with the use of large-format traditional cameras"
( from Wikipedia )
Cypress Tree, Alligator Bayou,
the leading lines in this photo really draw your eye up and back firstly with the trees leading up then the land at the back that draws the eye acros the hole picture his use of a wide DOF really brings in a lot detail also how the fore and mid ground are basicaly mirror images of each other .
Nottoway Plantation, Interior, Louisiana, 1998
the use of a narrow dof with the leading lines from make the items really stand out from the white space around them
the column on the left of the screen mirrors the columm on the back wall
these are two favourite pictures i have found of richard misrach i like how they look like your standing right there seeing the details for your self
I used petrochemical America by Richard misrach and kate orff also for my research

week 2 vantage point fore/mid/background
vantage points
vantage points oh what fun lol (well at least some times watch out for birds ) theses 22 photos are from this weeks in class exercises they are a mix of high and low vantage points wide and narrow DOF .

(f/45 1/40 iso 200 15.63 mb )
- OK for this first photo i was testing my settings it is very over exposed but i still like how it turned out with the green leaves out lining the stone and with the lines from the concrete and the windows in the background.
( f/16.0 1/100 iso 100 23.02 mb )
ok for exercise 2 i was looking to capture the lines of the power pole for 1 of my leading lines photos and i think i did it very well . with out the shadow of the power pole this would be a very plain and uninteresting photo the shadow really makes the picture the lines in this photo lead your eye up though the photo and to the right .
(f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
for this photo i was trying to capture how the green edges of roof looks like a pair of birds wings in flight from this Angel this photo is also one of my leading lines photos with how the roof leads your eye from the left upper corner to the right side the power lines also do this the finaly the bricks on the front of the building lead your eye down to the bushes.
( f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 23..48 mb )
this is another leading lines photo but is also one of my wide angel portraits i like this photo but now know that i should have moved in closer to get more detail on the trees and a slower shutter speed so i could capture the movement of the trees .
( f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
with this photo i was tiring to capture some ants but my shutter speed was to slow and i might need a better micro lens . i still like how this photo turned out with the different levels with the grass and the broken concrete the texture in this photo is great .
(f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
(f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
(f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
i like the effect of this photo but wish that i had centered on the first log .
( f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
( f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
i love the lines of the fire truck and the power lines overhead (also just like fire trucks )
(f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
( f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
( f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
(f/16.0 1/60 iso 100 )
( f/22.0 1/15 iso 100)
(f/8.0 1/50 iso 100 )
(f/22.0 1/20 iso 100 )
now both these photos where taken with a f stop of 22.0 and an iso of 100 but the top one was taken at 1/20 and the bottom one was taken at 1/50 the bottom one came out a lot brighter than the top i think this was because the sun came out from behind the clouds for a moment
( f/22.0 1/6 iso 100 )
( f/22.0 1/6 iso 100 )
( f/32.0 1/4 iso 100 )
i just released all these photos have a iso of 100 lol i think that may stay as my main iso for my photos it has served me well so far .
